Washington, DC (February 17, 2022) – The Alliance for Cell Therapy Now and the Alliance for Cell Therapy Foundation (together, the Alliance for Cell Therapy), independent, non-profit organizations guided by leaders representing academic and medical institutions, industry innovators, and patients, commend the U.S. Senate for its bipartisan confirmation of Robert Califf, MD, as the new Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner.

Dr. Califf’s leadership and considerable experience in clinical research and science in academia, public sector service (including as former FDA Commissioner), and private sector innovation, will enable him to effectively lead the agency and ensure regulations keep pace with advancements in science, while upholding the gold standard of safety and effectiveness. Dr. Califf will also support continued innovation at the FDA, including development of systematic evidence generation models that will improve patient safety and support the measurement of benefits and risks of medical products when they are used in practice.

The Alliance for Cell Therapy looks forward to working with the new FDA Commissioner to bring safe and effective regenerative medicine and cell therapy products to patients in need and support the agency’s mission of protecting public health.
